FAQs

  • What is a special education advocate?

A special education advocate supports families in understanding and navigating the special education system. Advocates help review records, prepare for meetings communicate with school districts, and ensure students receive appropriate services under IDEA, Section 504, and State Education Codes. Advocates are not attorneys and do not provide legal representation.

  • How is an advocate different from an attorney?

Advocates focus on collaboration, education, and problem-solving within the school system. Attorneys provide legal representation in due process hearings or litigation. Many families work with an advocate first, and we can refer you to a special education attorney if legal services become necessary.

  • Do I need an advocate to attend an IEP meeting?

No, parents are always members of the IEP team. However, an advocate can help you

feel prepared, ensure your concerns are heard, and support effective communication—especially in complex or high-stakes meetings.

  • What ages do you work with?

We support students from early intervention through age 22, including transition planning for adulthood.

  • Do you work with private schools or homeschooling families?

Yes. We provide consulting for families navigating private school placements,

independent study, homeschooling, and transitions back to public schools.

  • Are your services available throughout California?

Yes. We provide virtual services statewide in California. In-person advocacy is available in select regions and may include travel fees. This service is also available virtually in the United States.

  • What records should I provide?

    Common records include:

Current and past IEPs or 504 Plans

    Assessments and evaluations

Progress reports. Communication with the school

     Behavior plans or discipline records.

If you’re unsure what to gather, we’ll guide you.

  • How much do services cost?

We offer transparent, package-based pricing as well as hourly consulting. Fees are listed on our Services page. Sliding scale or payment plans may be available upon request.

  • Can you guarantee outcomes?

No. While we advocate strongly and strategically, educational decisions are made by IEP teams and school districts. We focus on maximizing your child’s opportunities and ensuring legal compliance.

  • How do I get started?

Start by completing our Intake Form. Once reviewed, we’ll contact you to schedule an

initial consultation and discuss next steps.
